Feilim Martin RIP

Feilim is pictured here with Antrim Hurler, Shane McNaughton, at a recent ‘Meet the Fans’ night organised prior to the opening game of the Championship

The members of the Ulster GAA Writers' Association are greatly saddened at the recent death of eight-year-old Feilim Martin, son of our secretary, John Martin, and we tender our deepest sympathy to John and his wife, Alison, and to Feilim's younger brother, Diarmuid, and sister, Fionnuala, and to the extended family circle.

Feilim spent some weeks in hospital before his death on Saturday, June 16th and he was buried at Roselawn Cemetery on Tuesday, June 19th, following Mass and a poignant ceremony in the Holy Family Church, Newington, North Belfast.

The huge attendance was clear evidence of the esteem in which the Martin family circle is held, particularly in their Ardoyne neighbourhood but also in a much wider community. A large number of people also attended the burial ceremony.

Death is always a very sad occasion, no matter what the circumstances, but the death of a first born child is a cross that is surely extremely hard to bear.

Is féidir le John agus a chlann a bheith cinnte go bhfuil said go léir inár smaointe agus paidreacha ag an am an-tochtmhar seo.

Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh anam Feilim.
