History is created with
our December 2006 Tennent’s Monthly
Merit Award. Crossmaglen teenager PAUL KERNAN
is the winner and he is the third member of the family to be honoured.
Paul, a student at UUJ, follows in the footsteps of his dad Joe who was twice a winner and brother Stephen who also picked up the award. This is the first time three family members have been in the spotlight. Paul attended some of those presentations and probably thought of the day he might be in the big picture.
“I certainly enjoyed being at those presentations but I will enjoy this one better,” cracked Paul (19) when told of his selection as the December recipient.
“This is class. I very much appreciate the honour and it is nice for the family to create a little bit of history in this way.”
Paul receives the award after a sterling performance with Crossmaglen in the AIB Ulster Club SFC final against Ballinderry. He was given the task of marking the opposition’s dangerman, Conleith Gilligan, and held the Shamrock’s captain to just one point from play.
However, Paul will not have much time to enjoy the presentation as he must dash off to Jordanstown where he sits a second year exam in Property Investment and Development.
For the award he edged out Coalisland teenage star Brian Toner who was superb during December in the Ulster Club MFT against Crossmaglen and Killybegs.
As his award, Paul receives a Tennent’s Sports Voucher, an engraved Belleek China vase, training gear from Pro*Star Sport and specially designed silver cuff links from Omeath jeweller Gareth Mallon.
The presentation was made at a reception in the Ulster Brewery on Wednesday, January 10, by Ronan Cunningham, Accounts Manager, InBev Ireland.
