UGAAWA Press Release for Michael Lennon

TENNENT'S/UGAAWA MONTHLY MERIT AWARD
January 2006

Outpointing all performances in the amazing Dr McKenna Cup during January was a club player barely known outside of his own county. MICHAEL LENNON is the name and his masterly display with Inniskeen in the All-Ireland Club Intermediate Football semi-final earns him our Tennent’s Monthly Merit Award for the first month of the year.
Michael (20) played with the Grattan’s at midfield when they defeated last year’s All-Ireland winners Carbury from Cork. He was the rock on which the Rebels perished as he outplayed all opposition and rifled over two points in his team’s 0-12 to 0-9 victory, at Portlaoise.
The winner, a student at Dundalk IT, is a dual performer. Apart from the Monaghan and Ulster Intermediate Football Championship medals he has recently won with Inniskeen, he has an Ulster U21 Shield Hurling medal collected with Monaghan and has an All-Ireland ‘C’ U16 award. Last year, he added a Monaghan Intermediate FL medal to his championship one. He is also the holder of a Ranafast Cup medal.
Our winner is currently a member of the Farney U21 football panel, has trained with the senior squad and is a member of the senior hurling panel, as well.
Others in the mix for the January award were Stephen McDonnell (Armagh), Ciarán Bonner (Donegal), Gavin Donaghy (Queen’s), Malachy Mackin (UUJ) and Brian Meenan (Tyrone).

At a reception in the Ulster Brewery on Wednesday, February 8, Michael Lennon received his award of a Tennent’s Sports Voucher, an engraved Belleek China vase, training gear from Pro*Star Sport and specially designed silver cuff links, compliments of Garret Mallon Jeweller, Omeath.

The presentation was made by Terry McCourt, Tennent’s Business Development Manager.

Embargoed until 1.00am Thursday, February 9.
